- overview -
I was playing games with my friends one night, and one of them started complaining about he wants easier access to his champions. I asked him more questions about his struggles, and he explained some of the things he wished he could change. After hearing his feedback, I decided to take upon the project of doing a complete redesign of a game client. From coming up with a survey to find issues from real users to the redesigning and prototyping, I took on all steps of the project.
TAKING A POPULAR GAME AND GIVING IT A BRAND NEW LOOK

FINDING USER STRUGGLES
I began by writing down some questions I felt were relevant to players. After some tweaking, I created a list, did some user testing, and gathered the requirements of what needed to be changed.

GIVING THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT
I decreased the size of the ads, allowed players to change their skins from the main menu, and got rid of small graphics used to link to specifically game-related content. I also added a spot for viewing the most recent updates. I also put the selected character onto the main screen so players will be greeted by their most played character or the newest character. The characters will be represented by their in-game models to give players a better feel of what the game will actually look and feel like. The backdrop for the client will be Summoners rift, and will change depending on the selected game mode.

MAKING A SUCCESSFUL HI-FI
For any who play the game, it is well known that the game is from a 3rd person perspective. In order to make a successful hi-fi, I really put my photoshop skills to the test. In order to get a good idea of what this map would look like, I took screenshots from youtube videos, overlaid them, and made a background that looks consistent with the in-game battlefield.

GAME UX VS WEB/MOBILE UX: FIGHT!
Although both boil down to making a user interface successfully, they demand very different requirements. Game UI must portray information without overwhelming or distracting from the game. They should compliment each other. Take Persona 5 for example, the game and the UI work together to make a fantastic experience.

It was a great experience trying to create a new twist on a launcher for a classic game. This case study took me about a week to complete and involved following all the steps in the UX process.
